I don’t think I have a green thumb. Though, my neighbor just told me that I do.

For most of my life, I thought I had a black thumb. I had killed every plant I ever bought, including cactus & bamboo. If it’s green, I can kill it. In March of 2020 (pre- the world shutting down), something weird happened. I bought a plant from Publix, and I kept it alive for a couple of months. That little bit was enough to give me the confidence to try to grow more plants.

I had an Aerogarden that my mother-in-law had bought me a couple of years earlier, and I set it up to try again. And I bought a couple of plants that grow in the house. I have to admit, they did not all make it.

Some did. And I started buying more and more plants. This year, I even expanded to an outdoor garden, of sorts… I have had the pleasure of eating cucumbers and tomatoes grown in my own backyard. Now, not everything I planted has survived. Peas always seem to die on me. My kale did not make it. Heck, even one of my cucumber plants (so yummy, fresh cucumber) is dying as I write this. I really do not know what I am doing, just trying it out.

This trying has resulted with actual fruit, the fruit of my labor. If I had not tried, I would have no fruit or greenery in my house. And, while I have not been 100% successful in my efforts to grow plants, I am learning, and I will keep going, and growing!

Here’s the thing, the point of me sharing this… Even with my disastrous results and many dead plants, I have had success! Fresh veggies from my garden and hopefully much more to come.

While I have failed miserably, I have also been successful. Too often we are so afraid of failure that we do not even try. It makes me think of the Michael Jordan quote:

I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

What is it that you want to do next? Even if you fail a little, success can come!

Comment and let me know what you are working towards!
